My Success Event Scholarship Instructions

Thank you for your interest in the My Success Event Scholarship. There are at least 16-$500 scholarships available and some sponsoring colleges will have matching college scholarships for students receiving the My Success Event scholarship. So, this could mean $1,000 or more for some students. More details on matching scholarships will be available as the details are worked out. Please read the details below carefully before applying. If you have questions, please contact your counselor.

  • To qualify, you must be a junior in high school, and must have attended the My Success Event the fall of 2007.
  • Students must want to continue their education at any accredited college, university, community college or vocational-technical school.
  • Students must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Extra consideration will be given to "First-Generation College Students." A first-generation college student is a student whose parents, step-parents or grandparents did not receive an Associate’s Degree (2-year) or Bachelor’s Degree (4-year).
  • Please type your scholarship application and essay or include a typed attachment.
  • Complete the application and submit it to your high school counselor by the due date.
  • The evaluation form must be completed and submitted in a sealed envelope to your counselor by due date.
  • A high school transcript will need to be submitted with each application.
  • The deadline is November, 7, 2008.
  • If you are selected as a scholarship recipient, a thank you note should be sent to the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce and the My Success Event Steering Committee at 3003 Frederick Avenue St. Joseph, MO 64506.
  • Upon graduation, students will need to submit required documentation to the Chamber of Commerce. Upon receipt of documentation, scholarship funds will be dispersed to the college, university or trade school. If college, university or trade school has changed from the original scholarship application submitted during the junior year, the post-secondary school will have to be reviewed by the committee.
